Band Aid Hawaii

Music is a universal language. It can inspire people in ways nothing else can. Our vision is that through music, people will create connections in our community as well as connections throughout the world.

Band Aid Hawaii is banding together with the American Red Cross Clubs of Hawaii to aid others through music. Its mission is to create a fun and upbeat day of music, ranging from local high school bands to established bands. The proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross. With this effort, the students hope to save millions of children suffering from this disease.

St. John Kim and James Dowsett, 11th grader high school students, banded together with a team of other students to launch this new project.

The team's goal is to begin an annual event that will benefit the American Red Cross and support different local and international initiatives each year. Band Aid’s team includes Kevin Chung, Kelsey Ige, Nicole Ikeda, Jenna Louie, Mandy Takiguchi, George Tang and Kaity Yim. The parent supervisor for Band Aid Hawaii is Greg Kim.

The American Red Cross is an organization led by volunteers that aims to prevent and alleviate human suffering by providing disaster relief, giving support and helping people prevent, prepare for and react to emergencies. The Band Aid Hawaii team visited the Red Cross facilities and staff, and was awed and inspired by the services they provide and the future they envision.

Measles is a deadly disease. More than seventeen million children are affected each year – more than 600 children die each day. The Measles Initiative aims to prevent measles through vaccinations. Since 2001, over 500 million vaccinations have been given to vulnerable children in over fifty countries. The cost of one vaccine is just one dollar; with that one dollar, we can save a life.

Band Aid Hawaii is looking for sponsorships, auction items, food venues, volunteers and of course, bands that would like to participate. If you are interested in any of these areas, please contact Greg Kim at 808.780.2495.
